When collectors speak of horological heritage, few names carry the weight of Blancpain. With roots stretching back to 1735 in the Swiss village of Villeret, Blancpain holds the distinction of being one of the oldest watchmaking houses in the world. But this isn't a brand that rests on its laurels — from revolutionizing dive watches to preserving the art of haute horlogerie, Blancpain continues to push boundaries while honoring centuries of tradition.
At Pucks & Timepieces, we're proud to carry one of the most extensive pre-owned Blancpain selections you'll find anywhere, with over 20 references currently in our collection. Let's take a deep dive — pun very much intended — into the brand's remarkable lineup.
A Legacy Nearly Three Centuries in the Making
The story begins in 1735 when Jehan-Jacques Blancpain registered himself as a watchmaker in the village records of Villeret, nestled in the Swiss Jura mountains. The brand remained family-owned for nearly 200 years, passing through seven generations of Blancpain watchmakers. In 1815, Frédéric-Louis Blancpain upgraded the workshops and developed innovations in escapement design and ultra-thin construction that would define the brand's DNA for centuries to come.
After a turbulent mid-20th century, it was Jean-Claude Biver and Jacques Piguet who revived Blancpain in the 1980s with a now-famous declaration: "Since 1735, there has never been a quartz Blancpain watch. And there never will be." That commitment to purely mechanical watchmaking remains the brand's guiding principle today.
Blancpain is currently part of the Swatch Group, with its manufacture located in Le Brassus in the Vallée de Joux — the cradle of Swiss watchmaking.
The Collections: Something for Every Serious Collector
Fifty Fathoms — The Original Dive Watch
No discussion of Blancpain is complete without the Fifty Fathoms. Widely regarded as the first purpose-built modern dive watch, it was born in 1953 from the personal experience of Blancpain CEO Jean-Jacques Fiechter. After a harrowing dive off the French coast where he ran out of air at 50 meters, Fiechter set out to create a watch that divers could truly depend on.
The result was revolutionary: a water-resistant watch with a lockable, unidirectional rotating bezel for timing dives, a double-sealed crown, and luminous markers for underwater legibility. The name itself is a literary reference to Shakespeare's The Tempest — fitting for a watch born of the sea. Fifty fathoms equals approximately 91.45 meters, the maximum depth recommended for scuba divers at the time.
The Fifty Fathoms was adopted by military units worldwide, including the French Combat Swimmers Corps, the U.S. Navy, and special forces from Spain, Germany, Norway, and Israel. It cemented its place in pop culture history when Jacques Cousteau wore one while filming the award-winning 1956 documentary The Silent World.
Today, the Fifty Fathoms family includes several sub-collections:
- Fifty Fathoms Automatique — The flagship diver, available in steel, titanium, and red gold with 300m water resistance. We currently carry several references including the stunning red gold Automatique (5015-3630-52A) and multiple titanium variants.
- Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe — Born in 1956 as the urban alter ego of the Fifty Fathoms, the Bathyscaphe offers a more contemporary, versatile design. Powered by the in-house Calibre 1315 with an impressive five-day power reserve, it transitions seamlessly from office to ocean. Browse our Bathyscaphe collection starting from $6,480, including the coveted ceramic "Darth Vader".
- Fifty Fathoms Chronographe Flyback — For those who need more complication, the Flyback Chronograph with Complete Calendar combines diving capability with sophisticated timekeeping functions.
- 500 Fathoms — The extreme edition, rated to 1,000 meters with a helium release valve. Our 500 Fathoms GMT Limited Edition is a rare find for serious collectors.
We also carry a special 70th Anniversary Act 3 — a stunning limited edition commemorating the watch that started it all.
Villeret — The Soul of Blancpain
If the Fifty Fathoms represents Blancpain's adventurous spirit, the Villeret collection is its beating heart. Named after the village where it all began, Villeret encompasses the full spectrum of haute horlogerie complications — from the purity of a three-hand dress watch to the complexity of minute repeaters, tourbillons, perpetual calendars, and even the Traditional Chinese Calendar.
The collection is defined by its timeless aesthetic: round double-stepped cases, grand feu enamel dials, Roman numeral chapter rings with gold appliques, and leaf-shaped hands. For over four decades, Villeret has reflected the soul of the village whose name it bears.
Blancpain's moon phase displays deserve special mention — they are among the most celebrated in all of watchmaking. The humanized moon face, drawing on centuries of symbolism and literature, has become one of Blancpain's most emblematic signatures and played a key role in the brand's revival.
Our Villeret Quantième Complet (6263-1127-55A) is a perfect entry point to this collection, offering a complete calendar with moon phase at an accessible price point.
In 2025, Blancpain expanded the Villeret line with three new "Golden Hour" iterations, including an Ultraplate, a complete calendar, and a smaller moonphase — reaffirming the collection's dual heritage of mechanical excellence and design purity.
Air Command — The Military Chronograph Legend
The Air Command is one of watchmaking's great rarities. Created in the 1950s as a flyback chronograph for the United States Air Force, only about 12 prototypes were ever made, making originals among the most sought-after military chronographs in existence.
Blancpain brought the Air Command back in 2019 as a faithful modern reinterpretation, equipped with a column-wheel flyback chronograph, rotating countdown bezel, and "old radium" Super-LumiNova that reproduces the patina of the original. Our Air Command Flyback Chronograph is a rare opportunity to own a piece of military aviation history.
Léman — The Versatile Sportsman
Named after Lake Léman (Lake Geneva), this collection bridges the gap between sport and elegance. With distinctive case architecture and reliable complications, Léman watches are designed for the active gentleman who doesn't compromise on style. We carry both the Léman 2850A and the Léman Grande Date Édition Série Limitée.
Ladybird — Pioneering Women's Watchmaking
Since 1930, Blancpain has been a pioneer in women's mechanical watches, presenting the first self-winding wristwatch for women — the Rolls. In 1956, the Ladybird debuted equipped with the smallest round movement of the time. Today's Ladybird collection continues this tradition, offering sophisticated mechanical complications in designs specifically created for women, not simply downsized versions of men's models.
What Sets Blancpain Apart
- No quartz, ever. Every Blancpain watch houses a mechanical movement — a commitment the brand has maintained since its revival in the 1980s.
- Complete manufacture. Blancpain designs, develops, and produces its own movements in-house at Le Brassus.
- Ocean conservation. Through the Blancpain Ocean Commitment, the brand has supported over 20 major scientific expeditions and helped protect over 4 million square kilometers of ocean.
- Artistic craftsmanship. From shakudo engravings to grand feu enamel and Damasquinage, Blancpain maintains rare decorative arts within its manufacture.
Why Buy Pre-Owned Blancpain from Pucks & Timepieces?
Blancpain watches represent exceptional value in the pre-owned market. While they compete with brands like Rolex, Omega, and Jaeger-LeCoultre in terms of movement quality and finishing, Blancpain timepieces often offer more complication and craftsmanship per dollar on the secondary market.
At Pucks & Timepieces, our Blancpain collection currently spans from the accessible Bathyscaphe at $6,480 to the extraordinary 70th Anniversary Act 3 at $29,455. Whether you're looking for your first luxury dive watch or adding a rare limited edition to an established collection, we're here to help you find the right piece.
